Talking The School of Rock

Starring-
Jack Black
Mike White
Joan Cusack
Sarah Silverman

Releases March 2 for sale and rent

Plot summary-
Reveals minor details- but nothing you would not get from the trailers.

Comedy as only Jack Black can do it!! lol
Black has been thrown out of the band he formed, right before the big Battle of the Bands competition, and has been threatened to be thrown out of the apartment he shares with his long time friend (Mike White) if he does not start contributing to the rent, get a real job, and grow up.
White is a substitute teacher and receives a call for a job, which Black answers and decides this is just what he needs to be able to make some money to pay the rent, while he searches for a new band.
Black takes the job, posing as his friend, and hatches an idea to use the kids in his class as his new band when he sees them in their music class.

I do not want to reveal anymore about the movie, but it has a good, positive message and leaves you feeling very good.

Actor performances-

Black and Cusak are excellent as usual. They play very well off each other and while Black is his usual hyper self, it is very nice to see a side of him that is loving and encouraging to others.

The child actors in the movie- who are all about 10-12 years old, were selected for the movie due to their musical abilities and most had not acted before. Some came from classical only backgrounds and literally did not know what rock music was, so watching the DVD extra features was really interesting and entertaining.

The movie is rated PG-13, for rude humor, and drug use, but I would not have even noticed the drug reference if it had not been mentioned.

DVD Features:

Commentary by actor Jack Black and director Richard Linklater

Commentary by the kids from the film

"Lessons Learned"

Jack Black's pitch to Led Zeppelin

Music video

MTV's diary of Jack Black

Kids' Video Diary from the Toronto Film Festival

Dewey Finn's History of Rock Interactive Feature

Trailers

Weblinks

Widescreen anamorphic format

My rating- 8/10
